Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola is leading a delegation from the state to Germany in search of new insights on modern agriculture to further realise the dream of making Osun the food basket of the Southwest with aid of empowering and improving the quality of life for residents.

At Lindau in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Germany, Aregbesola made enquiries on modern agriculture in search of new insights from German farmers, such as Arnold de Vries, who he visited on his sheep farm.

Arnold de Vries had taken in two interns from the state for training on his farm in the summer of last year.Over 40 Nigerians from Osun have benefitted from the “Support for Capacity Building in Food Production” project launched in 2012 between it and the German state of Saxony-Anhalt to undergo internships in modern agricultural enterprises in Saxony-Anhalt.

Aregbesola said: “We have to feed our population somehow and effective agriculture, as it is done here in Germany, can help us.” The trip is also intended to thank the farmers who took interns in for hands-on training.

The administration has invested heavily in laying the foundations for modern agriculture in the state, while Aregbesola recently ordered the planting of five million plantain suckers as a means of providing food for the residents.

LHS boss tasks school owners on quality education (Read full details)

EducationThe Chairman, LHS Nursery and Primary School, Ota, Ogun State, Mr. Olawale Hassan, has challenged his co-school owners to provide quality education in their various schools in order to produce accomplished and ambitious young boys and girls of proven integrity to make significant contributions to the society.

Hassan, who said this in a chat with Campusnews, appealed to school proprietors and proprietresses at both the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education to show more commitment to high standard.

The LHS school chairman noted that the nation’s education sector was set to regain its lost glory when school owners start to insist on sanity rather than allow exploitation and decadence to be the order of the day, thereby preventing the tragedy of churning out sub-standard graduates.

He counseled all school owners to make continuous professional development mandatory for the staff to ensure they consistently work hard to remain relevant to the system, as well as uphold a culture of encouraging the students to aspire to greater heights and be the agents of change in the society.

Hassan enjoined parents to support the school’s control mechanism and to endeavour to clarity issues with the relevant authorities where there are doubts, saying it was this partnership, based on mutual understanding and close cooperation, that could bring the best out of the young ones.

The LHS chairman, who expressed appreciation to the pupils’ parents for their love for the school, appealed to them to closely monitor the spiritual and academic progress of their children and wards, adding that such is the needed tonic in achieving the noble objective of transforming the lives of the students.

Speaking on the theme: ‘There shall be evidence,’ the man of God said: “There has been evidence every year, but this year, God wants to publicly showcase what He has been doing secretly. When we sleep and wake up, that is evidence of His mercy. His goodness and mercy is upon us every year.

“Do you know how many people that wanted you dead last year, but God preserved your life? For God to display His mercy, people should avoid sin, double living and lack of faith.”The pharmacist turned pastor assured participants of God’s protection at the event.

The Passover, which God instituted for the Jews (Exodus 12:14), was a symbolic meal eaten before they left the bondage of Egypt for the freedom of The Promised Land. Christ Jesus celebrated this Jewish feast on the day before His crucifixion (Mark 14:12-26). In Christendom today, that meal is called The Last Supper. The Christian Service that commemorates The Last Supper is known as the Eucharist or Holy Communion. It was instituted by Christ Jesus (Luke 22:19). Usually, it involves the consecration of unleavened bread and wine by a priest, after which, members of the congregation, confirmed in the faith, partake of it.

Did Jesus intend the Eucharist to be only a literal, but in some way, mysterious, eating and drinking of His human flesh and blood? Most likely not, since Paul reminds us in I Cor. 15:50 that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

Christian author, Mary Baker Eddy, gives an insight into the spiritual significance of the Eucharist or Holy Communion, in her book, Science and Health with key to the Scriptures. She writes that the true sense is spiritually lost, if the sacrament is confined to the use of bread and wine. So, the spiritual significance of this important and symbolic Christian Sacrament – Holy Communion, is partaking in the nature and life of Christ. To partake in Christ’s nature is to be Christ-like in thought, motive and affection – to be a practicing Christian. To partake in Jesus’ life is to take up the cross daily and learn to do the works He did – healing both sin and sickness. It also means enduring and rising above persecutions that attend being a true Christian.

After the crucifixion, the discouraged disciples went back to their occupation of fishing, without success. Then, after Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared to them on the shore of the Tiberian sea, where they were fishing. He reminded them of their mission to feed His sheep (John 21:1-17). Thereafter, they went forth, rejoicing to take up the cross and work for Christ. Therefore, the Christian of today should not limit the Eucharist only to the symbolism of consuming bread and wine, but also embrace and celebrate the joy of working for and communing with Christ, on a moment by moment basis.
